René Magritte Museum (house)

Information

House where René Magritte (1898-1967) lived and worked from 1930 to 1954, which shows the apartment of the painter as it used to be, as well as drawings and hundreds of personal documents, photographs and letters.

The René Magritte Museum occupies the house in which the Belgian surrealist painter worked nearly 24 years of his life. On the ground floor the museum presents the apartment where the painter lived and worked from 1930 to 1954. A biographical exhibition is spread on the two other floors.

The period spent at the rue Esseghem, the only house which is open to the public since 1999, remains the most fascinating one for anybody who wishes to approach the painter.

An Abstract Art Museum completes the René Magritte Museum in Jette (Brussels). This surprising pairing will remind visitors of the close links Magritte had with the Abstraction.

There are two museums about Magritte in Brussels. You are booking a visit to the house-museum at Rue Esseghem 135, 1090 Jette.
